What I've been Reading Postpartum and Other Things
Every time I have a baby I end up with some type of fun book or tv series during the night or just while nursing the baby. This time around, my kids have also joined me on this endeavor and we have been reading some of the books together during the day, a lot of times while nursing or holding my son. I vaguely remember that when I had my second baby, I was reading Charlotte Mason’s first volume, a devotional with a blue cover on it and I watched Murder She Wrote in the middle of the night. With my third….I watched a ton of Turkish drama, finished CM’s second volume, and this time around it’s been the following adventures:
Reads:
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen: I started this novel in the middle of December just a few weeks after my 4th was born and I’ve been slowly working through it. It’s quite engaging and one of her underrated works. Romance, plot twists and even mystery! It’s got it all!
Alice in Wonderland: My kids and I have been doing this for our afternoon read aloud time and it’s quite marvelous.I always wanted to read the original work by Lewis Carroll and it’s quite fun to share this with them. Although the library requested theirs back recently so we got to like 3/4th of the book…we probably will either purchase it or check it out again soon!
Little House on the Prairie: We’ve been doing the entire little house series for half a year but when I was pregnant we read/listened to Farmer Boy and Little House in the Big Woods. When I had my son, we were about to begin Little House on the Prairie and both of my kids have been very much engaged in it. They have lots and lots of questions about the ethics and morals of the story. Each chapter keeps us on our toes and we also now own The Little House Cookbook. A great family read aloud and homeschool history addition!
Devos/Bible Times: With a house full of children, I have started getting lots of questions from my mom friends about when I do quiet time with the Lord. My answer is always….you squeeze it in as soon as you wake up… 5-15 mins..and yes you have to train kids to do something by themselves while you have your time with Jesus. My favorite source these days is Our Daily Bread devotionals. I alternate a lot! Sometimes its the our Daily Bread Devotionals, sometimes it’s straight chapters from the Bible and sometimes it’s my Crossway Bible study in Lamentations that I’m doing with a group of much wiser women in our church.
TV shows + Treats:
Rewatching Star Trek — Y'all I am loving rewatching the Next Generation! It’s brings back memories of when I would watch it with my husband when I had my first!
Alice in Wonderland Tea Bags: I got a box of these Alice in wonderland themed tea bags. Sometimes the kids join me but I love all of the flavors from it and it sure does feel very cozy. I make a cup most nights.
Yorkshire/PG tips British Tea: If I’m watching or Reading something British…. you best believe I will make a cup of this tea, no matter how late at night it is.
Greek Yogurt Twix Inspired Snack: a lot of times I make a small bowl of this healthy snack after kids go to bed. It’s great for nourishing yourself while nursing on Demand.
3/4 cup plain greek yogurt
1/2 tsp rum extract
1 tsp honey
then you mix it.
Meanwhile melt
2 TBS dark choc chips in microwave
drizzle that on top of the yogurt mix
and top it with sprinkles of almond flour.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Comment below if you have any questions.
Thank you for Stopping by Mariam’s!

This post was one of my favorites of yours! I love the reading tradition and the memories that go with it. And I have to try that tea.
Northanger Abbey is rich! We will need to check out the LHOP cookbook too. We are on our their or fourth round through the series.
